UK-based engineering consultancy Hilson Moran has signed an agreement to form a joint venture in Qatar aimed at tapping into the Gulf country’s booming $3 billion construction sector.
Under the agreement with the of the Qatar Foundation, Dr Sheikh Hamad Bin Nasser Al-Thani, the Hilson Moran Qatar LLC will offer the region its services in the areas of building design and operation, sustainable master planning, infrastructure, environmental and sustainability consultancy.
Hilson Moran has its regional headquarters in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi base, from where the firm worked on a number of high-profile projects, including the Yas Island North masterplan and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank headquarters, as well as developing vertical transportation solutions for the Landmark Tower.
A recent five-year forecast by Ventures Middle East has said the number of active construction projects in the Qatar is set to increase to $53 billion, representing a compound average growth rate of 12 per cent per annum to 2015.
“Qatar’s construction projects make up 13 per cent of total GCC projects in terms of value, and with the next five years a crucial time for pipeline plans to translate into physical reality, strategic presence for Hilson Moran in both the UAE and Qatar will enable us to build further on our substantial Gulf experience,” said Tony Morris, commercial director, Hilson Moran’s Middle East division.
