Ritz-Carlton mulling second Abu Dhabi hotel

Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marriott International, is considering plans to open a second hotel in the UAE capital.
The luxury hospitality brand is already preparing for the opening of its first property in Abu Dhabi. "We will potentially look at Abu Dhabi with a second property because we think the market is a very promising market in the long term," said Pascal Duchauffour, Vice President of Ritz-Carlton for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Developed by Abu Dhabi National Hotels (ADNH) and designed by Otak International, the 532-room Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal is expected to open at the end of this year or by early next year, he said.
The brand originally had signed an agreement with Aldar Properties to manage two hotels, one on Coconut Island, and another as part of Al Dana, but the two planned properties "have not materialised and now we're focusing on the one with ADNH and we're looking at other possibilities within Abu Dhabi," said Duchauffour.
The company is also mulling having a property in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as it prepares to open next month its first hotel in Riyadh.
Last June, Ritz-Carlton took over the management of the Al Bustan Palace hotel in the Omani capital, Muscat from InterContinental Hotels Group and is eyeing opportunities to have another hotel in the Sultanate.
